Shawn O'Connell, LPCC
Shawn is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a strong background in both mental health and public service. He earned his Master’s degree in Education from Wayland Baptist University in 2012, followed by a Master’s degree in Counseling in 2014.
A retired first responder with over 25 years of supervisory experience, Shawn is widely recognized for his contributions to crisis response in New Mexico. He is credited as one of the first officers to introduce Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training to the state of New Mexico.
With more than 12 years of experience working in community healthcare clinics, Shawn is deeply committed to supporting individuals with diverse and complex needs. He provides a wide range of therapeutic services, including individual therapy, grief counseling, couples and family therapy, group therapy, and crisis intervention. His approach emphasizes resilience and solution-focused strategies, drawing from person-centered modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation.
Shawn views therapy not as a lifestyle but as a practical and effective tool to achieve measurable personal growth. He is dedicated to creating a supportive environment where clients feel empowered to pursue meaningful change in their lives.
